Healthy living is the theme for this year’s Dublin City Council Social Inclusion Awareness Week, which runs from April 20th- 24th. Lord Mayor Eibhlin Byrne in the company of Dessie Farrell, launched the week in the Civic Offices Atrium, Wood Quay at 12 noon today. Social Inclusion Awareness Week highlights the positive work carried out by Dublin City Council and other agencies to reduce social exclusion and poverty and promotes an understanding of inclusion in our city. According to the Lord Mayor, “Social Inclusion Awareness Week gives us an opportunity to remind ourselves that our city belongs to all of us. It offers everyone of us an opportunity to examine our own role in society and whether we can genuinely say we are inclusive in every respect. Dublin is a city of belonging and the city is at its best when it is maximising the potential of each and every individual who lives and works here. The responsibility for social inclusion lies with each one of us. Dublin City Council, along with many other organisations, is assisting people live fuller lives within their own communities and the variety of events for the week ahead is proof of this. Dublin is for everybody – let’s make sure it stays that way”. The full list of events for the week is available on www.dublincity.ie and the Lord Mayor’s Speech from the launch today is attached in the Notes to the Editor.
