Tallinn

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia and the oldest capital city in Northern Europe, is located in the north-eastern part of the Baltic Sea Region. The city is home to a third of Estonia’s inhabitants (400,000 people).

A favourable geographic location has helped Tallinn develop into an industrial and commercial center. Tallinn offers possibilities to apply modern technologies and the city space allows extensive construction, which all fuels new investments, as well as the development of Estonia in general.

Tallinn has made huge strides in transforming itself into a high-tech, cosmopolitan city over the past decade, but there is no question that the city’s most valuable treasure is its connection to the past. Author of the European Green Capital Title idea, Tallinn’s particular wealth lies in its parks and public gardens, which are also part of its cultural heritage.

As the European Capital of Culture 2011, Tallinn’s mission is to make the whole city-space serve cultural interests and to prove to the whole world that a small society established on a steady cultural foundation may and can be an equal partner to however great ones.
