Ljubljana

Ljubljana conserves the friendliness of a small town while at the same time boasting everything that one would expect to find in a large capital city. It is an original city whose dreamy Central European character comes to the fore in winter, while in summer it sparkles with Mediterranean spontaneity.
The city's 5000 years of history can still be experienced today, through the remains of Roman Emona and the Old Town with its medieval castle, Baroque façades and ornate portals. This mosaic is completed by the picturesque bridges over the River Ljubljanica and spacious Tivoli Park, which reaches right into the very heart of the city.

Ljubljana owes its present-day appearance in part to Italian Baroque architecture and in part to the Vienna Secession, which is reflected in the style of many of its buildings.

Ljubljana boasts one of the oldest philharmonic societies in the world. The city is the venue for more than 10,000 cultural events every year, and special mention should go to its 14 international festivals. Ljubljana is an excellent starting-point from which to explore the beauties that Slovenia has to offer.
