About UCEU

What is it?

The UCEU (Union of Capitals of the European Union) was created in 1961 to preserve continuous links between the European capitals and to encourage communication between the inhabitants in order to develop the living feeling of European solidarity. It is a unique gathering of Europe's twenty-seven capitals and provides an exclusive opportunity for the Mayors, elected city councillors and senior administrators to address collectively issues of common concern.

The UCEU consists of a rotating chairmanship appointed for a period of one year, of a General Assembly, which gets together once a year and of a Permanent Standing Committee, which resides at least twice a year.

What does it do?

In compliance with its objectives, the UCEU conducts studies, organises meetings and proceedings inclined to promote economical, social and cultural progress of the citizens of the capitals of the European Union.

The logo shows a tower that reminds us of the city walls, symbol of liberty. The 6 battlements of the tower represent the 6 cities at the origin of the Union. An open gate as symbol of the opening and welcoming towards the world.
