The historically developed transportation infrastructure has facilitated Riga’s evolution as the major industrial and business centre of the Baltic region.
The city is well known for its architectural and cultural values, as well as its developed infrastructure. The beginning of the 20th century turned Riga into a famous Art Nouveau metropolis.
Riga is not only the backbone of Latvia’s economy but also the largest centre of culture, education and science. This is evident from the large number of cultural events, international exhibitions and scientific conferences that take place in Riga every year. In recent years, the most spectacular were the city’s 800th anniversary, the Hanseatic Days and the Cutty Sark Tall Ships race.
