Six young Irish science ambassadors will travel across Europe this summer on a specially commissioned Science Communications Bus, which will visit a number of European cities to promote Dublin City of Science 2012.
Organized by Discover Science & Engineering in partnership with Fáilte Ireland, Dublin City Council and the Office of the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government, the Science Communications Bus left Dublin on the 20th July and has already visited Dublin’s twin city Liverpool where the Lord Mayor Cllr Hazel Williams greeted the six Dublin Science Ambassadors.
The Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Emer Costello spoke via a Skype from the Community Training Centre in Ballyfermot to the Bus with the Lord Mayor of Liverpool. This symbolic link using technology between the two Mayors emphasised how modern communications technology can bridge time and place.
The Turin Bus will also visit Brussels and Amsterdam before arriving in Turin to join the City of Science 2010 celebrations scheduled between the 2nd and 7th of July. On leaving Turin it will visit Toulouse and Barcelona before arriving back in Dublin on 14th July.
