Bratislava

Bratislava

Bratislava, the capital city of Slovak Republic, is one of Europe’s oldest cities and yet, since 1993, still one of the youngest European capitals. In addition, Bratislava was the coronation town of the Habsburg monarchy for almost 250 years. It is the world’s only capital whose territory adjoins two neighbouring countries and at a distance of only 60 kilometres from Vienna, it is one of the ‘twin cities’, the continent’s two capitals situated most closely to each other.

In the 20th century, Bratislava quickly developed into a metropolis with about half a million inhabitants and a leading centre of the economy. Today, Bratislava is one of the most rapidly growing urban regions of Europe.
